Many times, customers come to us with one problem, and once they learn about all our capabilities, decide to do a total exterior renovation. At Belk Builders, we have the capacity to provide anything the exterior of a house needs, including roofing and siding. Such was the story with a recent project in South Charlotte on a split-level home.

A Failing Roof Needs Replacement

The homeowner initially contacted us because her roof was failing. The roof had 3-tab 20-year shingles. These shingles, consisting of asphalt and fiberglass, typically do not exceed their life. This was the case for this home. The roof was in significant need of a completely new roof.

Completed south charlotte roof replacement

A new roof!

Our South Charlotte roofing services are completely turnkey. We removed all the old shingles and, in the process, identified any areas of decking that needed repair. Once the foundation of the roof was ready, we installed architectural shingles from Owens Corning, engineered to be durable and long-lasting. They also have a distinct look, providing visual interest for the top of the home.

These shingles are also fire retardant and have a high wind tolerance. The home had three levels of roofing—the carport, main house, and upper level. Our crew worked adeptly to secure every shingle properly as well as to ensure no remnants or debris were left behind.

New Hardie® Plank Siding Added a Contemporary Look to the Home

In our initial conversations with the homeowner, we also spoke about the attributes of Hardie® Plank siding. The upper level of the home had old siding that wasn’t doing much for curb appeal. The homeowner fell in love with Hardie® Plank. As a South Charlotte Hardie® Plank dealer and installer, we hear this a lot because this product elevates any type of home.

We installed Hardie® Plank siding in a board and batten technique. This technique, popular with farmhouse and Victorian architecture, includes wide boards placed vertically and battens in the seams. Battens were needed initially in the 1800’s to ensure the structure was airtight. Now, they are more decorative in nature. While traditional board and batten siding was wood, Hardie® Plank siding is fiber cement. It’s much more durable than wood and is not impacted by water or insects. It has a wood look without the maintenance. The finishing process used by Hardie® Plank also ensures that it will never fade or crack.

During the exterior makeover.

This South Charlotte home went from just another house to something very special with the new roof and siding. This type of transformation is possible for any type of property. Not only will your home look beautiful, but it will also be well protected and more valuable.
