As a Charlotte exterior renovation expert, Belk Builders gets to help our customers with lots of different things. Much of the time, we’re focusing on one central area. Occasionally, we get to transform a house completely. That’s the feature story we’re bringing to you today, which included siding, windows, roofing, and more.
Hardie® Plank Smooth Siding Turns House into a Showstopper
The residence had existing vinyl siding, with an additional layer of older material behind it. Due to the age of the home, the original siding had asbestos. A professionally licensed company had to remove that and mitigate it before we could begin our work.
Once the surface was ready, we installed Hardie® Plank smooth siding. This type of lap siding doesn’t have grain lines; it’s completely flat. Many would consider this a more contemporary look. The homeowners choose Mountain Sage as the color, which is timeless and blends well with the natural greenery all around.
With this new material, the residents won’t have to worry about the issues that can arise with other types of siding. Hardie® Plank is cement fiber-based. It won’t rot, peel, warp, or rust. It’s also resistant to moisture, fire, insects, and mold. It needs no maintenance, and the color will last for years because of the prefinish process they use.
Replacement Windows Offer Aesthetic Appeal and Energy-Efficiency
The next part of the makeover was installing new replacement vinyl windows in white. As you can see in the photos, the white frame windows complement the sage siding. Not only do these windows look great, but they also serve a bigger purpose. High-quality windows offer energy efficiency properties, keep warm air in during the winter and cool air during the summer. Thus, your HVAC system doesn’t have to work as hard. Windows are the leading cause of air leaks in a house!
New Roof Tops Off the Transformation
The house’s roof was also in need of replacement. While it’s not the flashiest part of the exterior, your roof is integral to its structural integrity. Roof failure can lead to leaks, mold, and substantial damage.
Our team installed a new black shingle roof. It will provide years of protection from the elements. The products used are highly durable and resilient. It also adds visual interest and depth, contrasting with the sage siding and white windows.
The Final Touches: Front Step Railing
To complete the home’s new look, we installed a railing along the front stairs and porch. The railing is sturdy and safe and adds more contrast since it’s black, just like the roof. It leads to the freshly painted pop of color door. You’ll also note, they removed the shutters from the windows giving the face of the home a cleaner look.
